Hawaiian Telcom Beats Oceanic Time Warner With Latest Upgrades

Hawaii Telcom Upgrades Internet Speeds

As you may already know, Hawaiian Telecom has been revitalized during the past few years to become Hawaii’s best alternative for people looking to free themselves from the corporate giant of Oceanic Time Warner. I have myself made the switch a few years ago and couldn’t be happier with the great service from Hawaiian Telcom and things are about to get a whole lot better!

In their latest Press Release, Hawaiian Telcom announced they have completed the latest round of upgrades to their next-generation fiber network and will be offering internet download speeds of up to 500Mbps and 50Mbps upload rates. These speeds are exponentially higher than what any other company in Hawaii has to offer including Oceanic Time Warner

When Will It Be Available?

According to the Press Release, many Oahu customers and businesses will be able to sign up for the faster internet packages beginning on March 2nd, 2014. Of course I assume that Hawaii Telecom’s service has to already be in your area to take advantage of the higher speeds.

What Does This Mean For Hawaii Residents and Business Owners?

For the average consumer, this means that you’ll be able to stream higher quality video at a fraction of what it currently takes. People using cable alternatives such as Netflix and Hulu Plus will probably see a huge upgrade in quality that was unavailable at the slower speeds. For example, users who subscribe to the upgraded connections should be able to stream 4k video as Netflix announced that they are currently filming their latest TV Shows such as “House of Cards” in 4k.

Of course, this upgrade is not intended for everyone. If you use the internet mostly to surf the web or watch online videos on your computer, it would be overkill.

Hawaii businesses will see benefits such as:

• Faster upload speeds will allow businesses to send files as a faster rate increasing productivity amongst their workforce.
• Faster download speeds allows more devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers to connect to a single connection without being bogged down by one employee hogging all the bandwidth.
• Increased reliability and quality of oversees teleconferences between companies.

The Transformation of Hawaiian Telcom

I have to say that I’m am very impressed at the turnaround Hawaii Telcom has made in recent years. A lot of people including myself thought that they wouldn’t stay in business due to the massive decline in home telephone subscriptions. It’s good to see Hawaii companies keeping up with the latest technologies and giving the people of Hawaii alternatives when it comes to cable and internet services. Now if we could only get another electric company to arrive..
